Thanks to all who remembered my birthday and my service to LCGS, especially Pastor Chet and Nancy. Thanks for your prayers and best wishes. I miss being in the office but treasure my almost 24 years with all of you. There comes a time in everyone’s life when they must “move on” to other paths whatever they may be. Thanks for the flowers and gift. I love you all. God Bless! Sara Downs

She died on Monday, June 4th, and her memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 30th, 11:00 a.m. Visitation on Friday, June 29th, 4:00 – 8:00 pm. To Cheryl Johnson at the death of David. He died on Thursday, June 7th. No services are planned. To Vernon Bly at the death of Arlene. We received a letter from Vernon stating that Arlene died the end of May. Vernon is a long time member of Good Shepherd. Please keep these families in your prayers.
Shortly after Cheryl and I began our ministry among you at Good Shepherd, one of the first projects was to replace the existing worn out carpet. Among the persons who were very involved in this project were Paul Talkington, Bryan Chaplin, Rick Wyant, David Hogbin (deceased) and Cheryl Prashad. Their efforts and dedicated work brought this project to fruition. Now that it is time for new carpet the following gift in the amount of $ 5,000.00 has been received from Pastor Chet. Cheryl loved beautiful things and new carpet for our church would be a significant way to remember her.
At the semi-annual congregational meeting of the congregation on Sunday, June 17th, permission was received to remove and dispose of the existing carpet and any asbestos abatement as necessary. Further, the same shall be replaced with 2’ x 2’ carpet squares on the entire upper level of our building. Members are invited to consider purchasing carpet squares at the cost of $20.00 each. Your gift may be in honor or memory of a particular person. A response form for your gift is included in this Newsletter. It is expected that this project will be undertaken during the month of July
“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6:9b-10 What we pray is: Dear Father, defend us from the devil and his cohorts and from our lazy flesh which would hinder your will, and grant grace that your gospel may go forth unhindered. Thus we are shown in these three petitions our need with regard to God, but in such a way that it redounds to our benefit. God’s name is not only hallowed in itself, but in me. Likewise, God’s kingdom not only comes[Continue Reading]
STRENGTH IN WEAKNESS The prophet Isaiah writes as follows: “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary.” Isaiah 40:28 This is a wonderful proclamation concerning God—He does not faint or grow weary. This seems mad to reason. But the prophet is depicting God in terms of our senses, as if he were saying: “We get tired and are worn out by Satan’s plotting and cunning tricks. But we have a God who does not get tired. He will set[Continue Reading]

I don’t know how many of you receive our Synod’s monthly magazine Living Lutheran. It is an interesting publication in which Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton has a message each month. What I like about Bishop Eaton’s messages is they are not preachy but down to earth in the “common people’s” language. I was particularly impressed with her June message. She related a lot of it to her father, to his teaching, family heritage and his having served his country and his teachings. She talked about Juneteenth commemorating President Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 after the end of[Continue Reading]
