SUNDAY MAY 20th JOSEPH SCHILTZf      SUNDAY MAY20th Joseph Schiltz will graduate from Lincoln High School this Spring and he will be recognized for this achievement at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, May20th.  In addition on that day we will conduct the service of Affirmation of Baptism for Joe.  He is in the process of his faith formation under the tutelage of Pastor Chet.  He is now ready to make a public Profession of Faith in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.  Our prayers surround Joe for these significant passages of life.


Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Members and Families, You are invited to Payton Decker and Ethan Olinger’s Confirmation Party Sunday, May 13th, following the 10:30 a.m. service.  A light lunch and cake will be served. Kayla Bates is graduating Grand View University with a double major in Studio Arts and Art Education.  She also has a minor in Photography.  Kayla will be doing an internship with the Des Moines Art Center this summer until she starts teaching in the Des Moines schools in August.  Many thanks to church members for their support the last four years. Erik Bates is graduating from North Carolina University with his MBA.  He received this while working full time with the United States Navy.


PIANO DEDICATION – SUNDAY, MAY 6TH The new piano will be dedicated in memory of Danny Williams at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, May 6th.  Danny was a long time member of our congregation and he and Dawn were married at the altar here at Good Shepherd.  We extend our thanks to Dawn for her significant donation toward the acquisition of the new piano.

Pentecost – Sunday May 20th 2018

The Day of Pentecost is a culmination of the Easter season and occurs on the 50th day of Easter.  On the Day of Pentecost, we celebrate the Holy Spirit through whom and in whom the people of God are created and recreated.  The Risen Christ, having shown himself with His disciples and having ascended, sends the promised gift to the expectant church.  The coming of the Spirit gives the church the power and the necessary gifts to carry the glad news of the resurrection to the ends of the earth.  Pentecost is sometimes called the church’s birthday.  The liturgical color[Continue Reading]

A SPRINGTIME MESSAGE FROM YOUR PASTOR Following what has seemed like a lengthy Winter, it is with enthusiasm that we embrace the season of Spring. Danita Peterson is one of our church organists.  Danita and her husband, Ryan, are expecting their second child in the month of August.  Our Church Council is inviting our members to participate in a Diaper Shower during the months of May and June to welcome the new child.  You may bring one or more boxes of diapers and the same will be presented to the Peterson family in early August



HOWE SCHOOL – We are still collecting peanut butter and jelly and Cheese Whiz for the Friday back packs. Look for area stores’ sales on these items and then place them in the box under the Narthex table. You may also give to the fund for those items. DES MOINES AREA SHELTER AND SERVICES – Even though residents have doubled in the past few years we have continued our quarterly meals. 2018 meals will be served onJuly 15th, Sept. 16th and Dec. 16th .
