Stewardship month – October 2017

During the month of October, many congregations give emphasis to Christian stewardship.  Perhaps it has its roots in the agrarian economy as farmers brought in the bounty of the harvest.  After their abundance, attention was given to how to express gratitude to God.  Even though most of us are no longer employed in agriculture endeavors, we are recipients of salaries and wages on account of our labor, expertise and intellect.  We are so challenged on how to respond to our kind and benevolent God.

A biblical view of stewardship can be defined as “utilizing and managing all resources God provides for the glory of God and the betterment of creation.”  Stewardship is managing everything God brings into our lives in a manner that honors God and impacts eternity.  Stewardship begins and ends with the understanding of God’s ownership of all:

I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.

(Revelation 22:13)

The earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.  (Psalm 24:1)

In the month of October members of the Stewardship Committee will present Temple Talks which will express thanks for the many ways we live out our faith and to invite us to consider our plans for giving in the year 2018.  Stewardship Sunday is October 29th
